I personally found fanning powder more useful when the cards started to stick, but don't use too much, even a table spoon-full is a lot. Too much fanning powder will clump the cards together. If the right amount is used, then it should help your second deals and such.

I've never tried the fanning powder at the start of using a new deck, so I can't really comment on that unfortunately

well, fanning powder on a new deck will render it "broken in", and on an older one will render it "new", my friend put powder on all his decks( fresh out of the box all the way to 6 months old) so i know what it's like...

Fanning powder will give you a superb fan, and the ability to control your cards more accurately, but it's **it if you use it for anything other than flourishing, the powder provides friction to the deck, and friction will prevent most techniques from happening( specifically for the second deal, as you can't do the Strike when the top card won't let go of the one below it and same to the Push-off- the two cases where they won't let go affects the deal differently). I recommend you having more than 1 deck to use, one for flourishing and one for what ever else( for me, i have 2 good decks with powder for flourishing, 1 for daily practice and a few for filming)
